Books I Read in 2012, Books I Will {Lord Willing} Read in 2013

(Have you entered the giveaway for a copy of Queen of the Home?)

Lately I've had several people ask about book lists.  I think all of us are making out reading plans for the new year, huh? It isn't February yet, so hopefully we're still on track--Ha!  I am currently working on a Ladies' Recommended Reading Page that I hope will be helpful to someone.

As I reflected back on the books I read in 2012, I realized I wanted to read more in 2013 and record the titles.  Here are some of the ones I remember reading in 2012.

Respectable Sins by Jerry Bridges

Christless Christianity by Michael Horton

The Ever Loving Truth by Voddie Baucham

Biblical Womanhood in the Home by Nancy Leigh DeMoss

Why Isn't a Pretty Girl Like You Married?  by Nancy Wilson

Humility by CJ Mahaney

Home Built Discipline by Raymond and Dorothy Moore

Wordsmithy by Douglas Wilson

Future Men by Douglas Wilson

Culture Shift by Al Mohler

Keep a Quiet Heart by Elisabeth Elliot

Radical Womanhood by Carolyn McCulley

Speech by John Flavel

Love's Humility by John MacArthur

Give Them Grace by Elyse Fitzpatrick

Slave by John MacArthur

The Family by John MacArthur

The Best of Visionary Womanhood Volume 1

Ten Questions to Diagnose Your Spiritual Health by Donald Whitney

For the life of me, these are the only ones that come to the surface of my brain, even though I know there were more!  Sigh...this is why this year I have resolved to keep a list and check them off after I read them.

These are the books on my list for 2013.  Ambitious, I know. A girl can hope. Especially since I keep adding to the list! The highlighted ones I already completed or have almost completed (cyber-high-five me, will ya?) Also, some of these are ones I've read before but are good enough they deserve another go-round.

Why Your Child is Hyperactive (Ha!) by Ben Feingold

The Practical Implications of Calvinism by A.N. Martin

My Heart in His Hands, the Story of Ann Judson by Sharon James

The Freedom of Self-Forgetfullness by Tim Keller

Seven Toxic Ideas Polluting Your Mind by Anthony Selvaggio

All Things Good by Thomas Watson

Tell Your Time by Amy Andrews

Attributes of God by A.W. Pink

Knowing God's Will by John MacArthur

All God's Children and Blue Suede Shoes by Ken Myers

Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis

Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss

Elizabeth Prentiss: More Love to Thee by Sharon James

The Conviction to Lead by Al Mohler

Choosing Gratitude by Nancy Leigh DeMoss

The Power of Words by Nancy Leigh DeMoss

Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment by Jeremiah Buroughs

Little Golden Gems

Comforts from Romans: Celebrating the Gospel One Day at a Time by Elyse Fitzpatrick

The Intolerance of Tolerance by D.A. Carson

A Puritan Theology by Joel Beeke

Shopping for Time by Carolyn Mahaney

Fit to Burst by Rachael Jancovic

This Little Church Went to Market by Gary Gilley

The Consequences of Ideas by R.C. Sproul

Two Views on Women in Ministry by Gundry and Beck

A Church in the House by Matthew Henry

Call to Wonder by R.C. Sproul, J.R.

Seven Men Who Rule the World From the Grave by Dave Breese

Some of these books are meaty and heavier than my lazy mind prefers. My goal is to discipline myself to read them anyway, "rewarding" myself with Jancovic and Nancy Leigh DeMoss in between each one.  Think my plan will work?  Please don't check in with me on this list around July.

What should I add to this list?  What was the best book you read in 2012?

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some reading to do.

Hi, Bambi! My name's Joanna; I've been reading your blog for about a year, but I've never really commented. I just wanted to note here that if you've never read "Stepping Heavenward," you will thoroughly enjoy it. I read it in about a month last year, and loved it to pieces. I'm only 20, so I enjoyed being able to relate to Katherine's struggles as a young lady. Your daughters may even enjoy it as well. :-)

You might want to check out an online bookshelf to keep track of the books you hope to read, plus the ones you have already read.
Shelfari is one such service. Here's what Bing says about Shelfari:
Shelfari is a community-powered encyclopedia for book lovers. Create a virtual bookshelf, discover new books, connect with friends and learn more ...
I use this service myself and love how I can see the covers of all my books on my shelf, rate and review them and see what my friends are reading.
Hi Bambi, I also have been reading your blog for a long time but I don't think I have ever commented. I love your list of books. Many are familiar because I have read them or I plan to read them soon.
If you want to see my virtual book shelf, here is the link.
If you like it and set up your own shelf, send me a note so I can follow you.

Sounds like a wonderful list! Do you actually have these books on your bookshelf or are they on a Kindle, etc?
I would like to read more books and I'm thinking a Kindle would be a great way to do it. :)

Blessings,
Janet

Hi Janet, Most of them I have on the shelf, although I do have a few on Kindle. The thing I like most about the Kindle is that the books are less expensive and sometimes even free plus there is no waiting time while a book ships. But really, I just cannot get used to reading something that isn't a real book. I know a lot of people prefer it, but I don't ;) Also, there are a couple of these books I haven't bought yet--Fit to Burst and Power of Words...two that I'm very excited about reading! :) Unless there is a huge price difference, I'll get them in a book not Kindle download.

Haha, I like your plan of attack :D

I'm in the middle of "Idol Lies" by Dee Brestin and it is truly turning my world upside down. I recommend it highly :)

Attributes of God by Pink is great, as are all his other books, and I really liked Stepping Heavenward - I actually cried reading it! But I decided to comment because I just had to add that The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment is so so SO good that you should read it next.

Hats off to you for making time to read good things!

Hi Bambi,
I've been reading your blog for awhile now; it was like a rare jewel I stumbled upon which in turn (along with a few other blogs) gave me the confidence to start a blog myself (and stick with it). Anywho I've made a list for myself this year (totally get the ambition) and Home Comforts is definitely one of the meaty ones. Attibutes of God is AWESOME! I've read it quite a few times. There is a website with all of Pink's writings and they are just profound. I'll probably be adding some of your winners to my list as well. Happy Reading!
