"To be a mother is the grandest vocation in the world.
No one being has a position of such power and influence.
She holds in her hands the destiny of nations;
for to her is necessarily committed the making of a nation's citizens."

I love this!! And how true it is! So many people believe the lie that there are other jobs or careers that are more important than motherhood and any other place is acceptable to work except in your own home. I am blessed that my mom loves and values being a mom. What a blessing to have other examples, like you, who truly value being a mother and loves her children.
I am reading "Queen of the Home" right now and this quote is in the book. Thank you for your godly example and for your inspiring and convicting blog posts. They have really encouraged me and I have learned a lot.
Many blessings to you and your family,
Libby
Thank you for that precious comment, Libby. What a treasure your mother must be to you.
I've never agreed with this quote. I treasure being able to be a wife/mom, especially after six years of infertility but I don't believe that some roles are "greater" than others. If God has blessed a woman with being single or a wife without children she is not "less than" another woman whom God has called to be a mom.
Thank you, Holly. So true. I certainly don't think (nor do I think Mrs Whitall did) that someone who isn't a mother doesn't have the grandest vocation *for them*. That would certainly wipe out most of humanity from having a grand vocation, wouldn't it? :) Considering half of us are men! :) Nevertheless I think the quote has merit *for women with children*. I guess that's how I was reading it--in an individual sense.
