Act Like Men {and a giveaway from Wise Decor}

I'm interrupting this lengthy blogging break, with a post sponsored by Wise Décor.

Is there anything more important than keeping our minds filled with the scriptures?  We must stay diligent to read, study, memorize and meditate on it, to keep the Word of Christ dwelling in us richly. In this "information age" there are words flying everywhere, all over the place, constantly!  I for one get so tired of it. Reading my Bible or viewing the words of scripture in my home gives me such peace and comfort.

As faithful homemakers, it is a blessing to use the creativity God has given us, to decorate our homes and make them reflect the glory of God. That's another reason why I love having the words of scripture in my home, anywhere possible.

There are several ways to do this.  There are art prints you can buy inexpensively at thrift stores.  In the past I have even printed scripture passages, hymn lyrics, quotes or even prayers off my computer, and hung them around the house.  I have talented friends who can paint words directly onto their walls, either free-hand or using a stencil.

But what a treat I was given to choose wall decals from Wise Décor. No stencils or paint required, ladies and gentlemen.

Wise Décor will custom design any decals and they can go directly onto your wall.  The vinyl is so thin that it looks as if the words are painted on!  There are many fonts and colors to choose from as well.  You can also apply the lettering to boards, mirrors or even furniture.  When I visited the site it sparked all sorts of ideas.

I will warn you: it was so hard to choose what verse I wanted.  I considered using a Reformer's quote, lyrics from a favorite hymn or a quote about education from our founding fathers.  Another option was a scripture about hospitality in the kitchen or  1 Corinthians 10:31: So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."  Decisions, decisions. I knew the verse would be one we looked at all the time and would very likely be used by God in our family's life!

But in the end, there was a place that just begged for the boldness of an exhortation from scripture: My boys' room (The four of them share a dorm-style room). Pictured above are the wall decals above a picture window.  That is the top bunk to the boys' bunk beds you see on the right.

My oldest son who is 13, helped me choose the scripture and then I let him choose the size, font and color all on his own.  He did a great job :)

Be watchful,
stand firm in the faith,
act like men,
be strong.
1 Corinthians 16:13

The boys had this scripture memorized within about 3 minutes. I believe they will always remember this scripture being in their room.

And has there ever been a day that we needed more men standing firm and acting like men?  Sacrificial, loving, hard-working leaders who fear God and love His Word? I don't know about you, but I see a lack of men who are watchful over their own souls, much less those of their family. Hollywood depicts men as idiots, makes a mockery of real manhood and gives young men nothing to strive for. What a great encouragement to have these inspired words in front of the eyes of my sons each day.

The decals are e.a.s.y to apply.  Don't be intimidated. This huge font we chose only took my husband and I about one hour to get on the wall.  We just measured to get it centered and used a level to keep it straight.  Then we simply taped it up and started rubbing the paper with the plastic tool included in the package.  Then the lettering just peeled right off the paper and onto the wall. There are detailed instructions included in the package on how to apply the decals.

  12. So glad to read a blog post from you again! Strong godly men are what our country needs. I was recently at a gathering, a mom was complaining gently that she had only boys and was wishing she had a girl. I gently encouraged her that I know many godly families who are having/have had multiple boys I told her that it could be the reason the Lord gave het these boys was because we are in such dire need of godly men in our nation and she had been given the blessing of raising such men for the Lord. I think a light came on in her heart.

I love your scripture for your boys room!! We moved recently, and I would definitely put one up in our Library/Schoolroom, maybe even each of the children's rooms.

  13. We would use the decal in our living/dining room area. We have a blank space and we've been brainstorming what to put up there. We've thought of using a decal of some kind, but Bible verses are our preference and I haven't seen many decals of verses out there. This would be perfect!

  15. How encouraging to your sons as they grow into fine young men.

I still have the two wonderful old framed "sayings" from my Mammaw's living room---they're probably from the 1940s and hung on the wall of the first house and the "new" one, built in 1958. They're a faded navy blue, now, kind of a rough-textured paper, an 8x10 in a frame, with what must have been a touch of glitter on the letters before we knew what glitter was.

They read "The Lord Will Provide" and "God Bless Our Home," and are some of my most treasured family items.

  18. Over the Fireplace in our living room.... I've been wanting to put up the verse which says "whatsoever things are pure, honest, lovely, of good report" etc.as a visual reminder to keep our minds and speech in check. Good to hear from you again! My six week old is growing nice and sturdy and giving us the sweetest smiles; I imagine your little Selah is too.

  21. I was so hesitant to enter this giveaway…..I hardly ever enter giveaways, because somehow in my mind I don't want you to think I read your blog specifically to win stuff!

I love your blog, Bambi, and this is where I heard about wise decor.com. I explored their website and it just took my breath away!

I'll share this blog post on my blog too, if that's okay with you.

  22. Hey Bambi-
That is too cool as our boys just moved into their own room with a similar window, AND my oldest picked that vs plus 14 to put on his grad invitation. They are getting ready to paint so that would be a neat addition to their room. I would like one above our bed in our bedroom. Thanks for the link to this site.
Congrats on that newest blessing!! Know you are treasuring the time as we are with Joeb!! Joeann

  23. Love it! Thanks for posting! Truly a great way to decorate. I think simple wall decals (with class) can really add life to any room. I recently bought some wall silhouettes (safari animals) from www.LifeSizeSilhouettes.com to dress up my boy's room. What a difference! I was really pleased with them. Keep up the good ideas!
